Our Team
Senior counsel.
Real experience.
We negotiate like litigators and think like operators. We don't just read contracts — we read the room. We've sat where you sit, which means we know exactly where the risk lives and how to close. We speak business. And we mean business.

Cynthia Assam is an award-winning business and technology attorney with deep in-house experience at VC-backed AI and fintech companies. She founded Assam Law to give founders, operators, and growing businesses access to sharp business counsel without the big law overhead. Having built and managed legal functions inside fast-moving companies, she understands not just the law, but the business behind it.
Cynthia has negotiated nearly half a billion dollars in commercial transactions across contracts, technology agreements, IP licensing, and commercial real estate deals. As one of the few Black IP attorneys in the United States, she has long treated intellectual property ownership as a civil rights issue and built her practice around protecting the wealth her clients create.
Cynthia holds a JD and MA in Public Policy from the University of St. Thomas, where she graduated as a Presidential Scholar. She served as a Law Clerk at the Minneapolis Department of Civil Rights, was an active member of the Community Justice Project, and served as Co-Chair of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee of the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago. She currently serves as Board Chair of Win Back, a nonprofit focused on wholistic community healing.
