Designers, artists, inventors, entrepreneurs, creators: How do you protect your work?
In this presentation, you will learn about the importance of patents, copyright, and other legal means to ensure you own and control your ideas and products -- your intellectual property. The program will also explore how knowing your rights empowers creators and communities that have been historically marginalized, offering tips on how to prevent work from being exploited or appropriated without credit or compensation.
*Please note this Zoom event will be recorded and posted on the Library's YouTube channel at a later date.
This online program is hosted by Cynthia Assam, Esq., an award-winning business and intellectual property law attorney. She is the Founder and Principal Attorney of Assam Law & Consulting, LLC (ALC), a law firm specializing in assisting creatives and entrepreneurs with their business, entertainment, and intellectual property law needs. As one of the less than 2% of U.S. licensed IP lawyers who are Black, Assam considers equity in intellectual property a modern civil rights issue. Outside of ALC, Cynthia is President of nonprofit Win Back, Corp. and is serving her second term as Co-Chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee of the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago.
